cloud summons rufus from the deck of destiny in the shinra mansion, but the child refuses, causing him to sneer in response. once at the crash site, rufus tells his assistant crimson about his new power, and gives him a postcard containing the coordinates of meteor. cloud tells rufus to hurry and to go away, but when rufus goes missing, he gets a call from his assistant about new shinra’s orders to stop the war. returning to the mansion, he is attacked by hunters and is driven away from the mansion, meeting back at the crash site, while the hunters pursue him. when he returns to the mansion, the main doors are shut and the servants have gone. rufus and the room where he met crimson are empty.

the next day, cloud goes missing and the turks search for him. he is found in the shinra mansion, where rufus had been holding him captive. cloud is about to leave in a taxi, when he finds rufus at the entrance to shinra. before he can ask questions, rufus tells him he is unable to leave and tells him not to come back. when cloud tries to follow rufus, he is dragged and thrown into the shinra mansion, where he is kidnapped and tortured by enforcers. after a lot of fighting rufus is brought back to the shinra mansion and branded, much to his disgust. cloud then confronts rufus, and the two argue. shortly after, enforcers show up again, and she has a group of geostigma-infected girls they plan to use to get access to the crystal, which cloud succeeds in stealing, but as she tries to reason with cloud, he stabs and knocks her out.

the next day, cloud and his friends escape the geostigma-infected girls. afterward, the turks come into the room he took to steal the crystal and finds him. cloud tries to explain, but the turks don’t want to listen, so he is forced to leave with them. on their way out of the mansion, they are attacked by geostigma-infected enforcers. the turks manage to win against the infected army, and take everyone but cloud to a safehouse. the turks inform him about meteorfall and about the resistance’s plan of destroying the barrier to kill sephiroth.
