or you can just marvel at them as they stare at each other (or each other in glasses) for several minutes while getting to know one another. its just absolutely amazing. there are just some that you find yourself drawn to. you can see why theyre so special. its really hard to decide which i like best. honestly, i think its between the grandfather and the pet. i think the grandfather is a bit more goofy and fun to hang out with, but the pet is the real heart of this episode. she really speaks for the rest of the franchise when she says that the keroro you usually encounter isnt her. its the pet, which just makes me want to smile.
in episode 226 and 227, they go on a road trip to find ashtrays. but theyre also dealing with giant enemies that have taken over the planet and are out to do bad things. they havent stopped them before and despite their massive team, they havent even been able to contact their allies, namely what we could assume is the real keroro. it might be just me, but i really get the vibe that he cant contact keroro. i think thats why i like the friendship in the grandfather and the pet. and even though the pet doesnt come into play here for a very long time (she just talks to the grandfather about ashtrays), i still really love her. i just love the way she interacts with keroro. she just has such a deep relationship with keroro. its so funny just how the have that affection for each other. it feels like they really know one another. there’s something really special about that.
on more recent topics, i wasnt impressed much at all with the style of keroro: robot cowardly lion. but after a bit of thought, i realized why people might be baffled by it (or they may have even been the ones that did it). a lot of the head nods to the original film are fairly subtle (such as the fact that keroro came out of the cookie jar in the background), and its not really clear where characters get their outfits from. its obvious in kororotenashi kengo and keroro: the incredible machine, but otherwise its hard to distinguish where the helmets come from on the monster keroro. after taking a closer look at it , i decided that most of it came from “turbo hot dog” anyway, or perhaps he stole it from kenji (who did the same with “the rhino who loved keroro onsenmachi”!). in fact, the coloring of the costumes are actually done to resemble the originals (side note: the coloring has never been impressive anyway – i tried to get away from it in my review of kororotenashi kengo). the only other slight disapointment was the fact that the animation of the suits was crappy, and the newer models never even made it to the series (how is that possible?!?!). but, as i said, these are minor issues and i think the games were more than capable of delivering a good story anyway.
