the movie portrays the complexities of the kashmir conflict and the growing alienation among the youth of the valley. the film, which won the best actor award at the british academy film awards, is based on the story of kashmiri militant burhan wani, who was killed by security forces in 2016.
in short, haider is a well-written, well-executed thriller, which has much to offer. director ar murugadoss shows a sharp eye for detail and brings a welcome whiff of sophistication to the rugged terrain. haider is a welcome departure, one that we are all very happy to see. haider (haider.shahid kapoor) is an emotionally fragile soldier who has an intense hatred for his own uncle and a generous heart for a girl named salma. he is haunted by his dead father, a kashmiri freedom fighter killed by his own uncle. guilt-stricken, the three-year-old haider grows up to be a man who will stop at nothing to avenge his father’s murder. as soon as haider enters the room with the un representatives he starts shouting: “no to india, no to india”, “what you see here is the real india and india is the real india”. haider was seen parading in his native village with a pro-kashmiri flag, shouting out slogans in support of kashmir. when the delegation left, haider followed them to the car. the first thing we see after haider enters the house is a photo of ghazala and hilaal. this is a classic storyline of any bollywood love story. ghazala is a kashmiri muslim girl from a kashmiri family and hilaal is a kashmiri muslim from a pahari family. they are both thrown into a life and death situation. ghazala knows that if she marries hilaal, she will be rejected by her family. she knows that her family would be killed by the indian army and she is ready to sacrifice her life to save them. hilaal is ready to die for his country, his people and his family. for every good that haider does in the film, he gets punished. one scene in particular shows haider leaving a restaurant with a man who he thinks is a terrorist. but, unbeknownst to haider, the man is a secret agent. after haider takes the man to an abandoned car, the man has an expressionless face and says: “i am sick of all these people”. haider is shocked. he immediately goes home and begins to think about his misdeed. he apologizes to his friend and tells him that he was “taken in by a terrorist”. he then realizes that he has betrayed his country. 5ec8ef588b
