Facebook wants a judge to rule that its users have no legal right to privacy, in a case involving emails sent to addresses associated with users on the social media site. U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria rejected Facebooks motion, in a 2013 ruling, to dismiss federal and state claims brought by the Electronic Frontier Foundation and the Center for Democracy and Technology
In an email that he sent to Facebook product manager Neeru Paharia a week later, Aaron says that he is not interested in receiving such a warning but will inform Facebook when he will be receiving access from a website. If the hacker does get ahold of a users account or that of a representative Facebook official, facebook sends a message to the user informing them that they are the victim of a hacker or that their account was compromised. Facebook is being held accountable for a policy that enables employees to report pages, which can be used to remove and investigate them. In a blog post, the company says that Facebook helps prevent government censorship of speech with the policy, and also provides more freedom of expression with its reporting tool, and that it allows users to report objectionable content or adult material to Facebook directly instead of doing so through government channels
Facebook user Aarons business page was hacked by a user who requested the social network change the two step verification process on his account, in order to make it easier for him to gain access by way of changing his login information. Facebookinforms the hacker that sending the site a photo or scan of his ID would allow them to do so, with Aaron explaining that the hacker then proceeded to send in fake ID that shared his name, but none of his other personal information such as his date of birth.
Who knows how this person was duped. But if this person is indeed a serious hacker, he would no doubt be much more sophisticated that his bot. Its difficult to say whether an attacker would be crafty enough to compromise the original control accounts on purpose. However, he would have been used to the process of hacking, and understood the importance of getting in and out quickly. That alone should create suspicion. Its just not clear why he would continue to try over and over if the account was indeed compromised. Also, if he indeed compromised the account, why not simply log in as a new account? It also seems that it would be easy for him to just show up at the museum, or even call the museum in advance and make an appointment. So, the hacker is perhaps not very confident that they would be successful each time. Its also possible, of course, that they are using automation, which wouldnt be entirely out of the question. With Facebook as the most popular social media platform, anybody has the ability to reach millions of people around the world within seconds. That power comes with great responsibility, and the company has made it its mission to build a safer and more trustworthy community. But despite the settlement, the suit also poses another challenge: Facebook could be called on to pay a portion of the award to the relatives of the people it killed because of the fake account. Employment for youth in the food industry can be difficult.
