this is a free plugin, meaning that you need to subscribe to silverfast to use it. you can buy a license for this for $5.00 and also for $19.95 for a lifetime license. i havent used any other plugin for lr since i started using it and it works like a charm. i recommend you try the free trial first.

the new version is quite a bit easier to use than version 1.0. i really like that they used the presets from the free version. normally when we download plugins we want the most recent version. this is a good compromise. the latest updates are done by the developers which in this case are the same people who make the free version. this version is also a lot easier to use and i did not have any problems with it. it does take a bit of practice to get the hang of it, but i couldnt imagine a better way to get the job done. although, i do also feel that it could be a little more user friendly as i had to get used to the sliders a bit and eventually felt like i wasnt clicking on the right sliders.

having the option to choose the settings to use for the individual image as well as the master profile is very helpful in case you want to correct for scanner dust. this plugin is very strong in the infrared range, but it doesnt quite have the same effect in the uv range. of course, this is another adjustment you can make in lightroom. i do not use this filter much, but i do find it useful when using a scanner which lacks this filter.

i have only tried this on fuji files. if you have other raw files, i suggest you give it a try. the only settings i used were to lower the contrast a bit and boost the highlights. i used the preset with a white scratch filter set to 0.2. the results are good, but a bit over the top. i found myself needing to increase the contrast a bit more after using this filter, so for some of my files i had to use the enhancement setting in lightroom instead.

So let’s get real here…this is a reissue of a plugin from 2010 version 1.0 with significant new features and abilities added. So unless you’ve got a great shot that needs these new abilities and features, you might want to wait for the upgrade to 1.2.3 which will roll out later this fall. In my client job, where I work for an art school, I have 100’s of negatives coming through a week and the stuff that this plugin enables me to do is really huge. So I’m a bit ‘hype’ here! Topaz Studio 2018 and 2019 are my go-to software. I use it for everything I need to do in Photoshop. I use it for negative retouching and print management. Topaz Studio is the most user friendly and powerful screen capture tool I’ve ever used. I also have a bunch of plugins and an external tool that I use with Studio. This software set is the best blend of tools to make the best products. 4. Photoshop is a huge tool that I use as well. But not necessarily for photo editing. I use it for retouching.
