In Magnificence, the story the rich family want to use a person to teach their children so that the children will become good. Based on their level of education, a tutor is more capable of educating the child. For they are rich, they would be more aware of the usage of their tutor. By having more knowledge, they will recognize the problem when its happening. Thus, they can handle it promptly.
I think that the story Magnificence shows how strongly society is divided between rich and poor especially in developing countries. It is the story of a few human beings who have enough of their wealth and are able to hurt somebody. In their face is a lot of ignorance and stupidity. Those people who are rich are able to invest their money easily. As long as they have some money, they are likely to use it to do something.
Although the story Magnificence described the male gender, this reflection of the scenario is present in the society of today. Poverty is still the problem of the people in this country. The people are unable to feed their children due to the situations they are currently facing. Poverty brings about a lot of challenges for children. The lack of money prevents them from getting education. Because of this, they are not able to show what they can be. This kind of situation affects the people since they are still poor. As a result of that, the society becomes poorer. So poverty is one of the problems that affect the people in our society and it is important to tackle it.
But to summarize, we should always be able to analyze our stories from different perspectives because it will give us a more deeper view of what is happening. For instance, in Magnificence, the mother could be powerful because she is the head of the family. The little girl is powerless. The mother has more power because she knows more about the situation than the little girl. Both of them were equally powerless. But from a Marxist, they were not equally powerful. What was interesting in this story is that the mother rescued her child from the hands of the rich man. And in the end, her husband was beaten not for what he did towards her. It seems like in this case, the mother acted like a hero to her child. She represents the mother to her childrens as God and the rich man as the serpent. She rescued her child from the hands of the rich man. In Magnificence it was not a sin to gain knowledge. It was rather about obedience. Her daughter may have learned a lesson from this story but that was not the intention of the author. But this conclusion will only be reached if we look at magnificence from an entirely different angle. From the western point of view, the little girl and the mother obviously had less power. But from the perspective of the Marxist theory, the mother had more power than the little girl because the mother can easily talk and act because she is the head of the family. In the Marxist theory, the bourgeoisie has more power than the proletarian because the former has better education and the latter does not. The bourgeoisie can use their education to stay in power and oppress the proletariat using the law. From the perspective of the Marxist theory, the bourgeoisie always stay in power because they have more education and wealth. In this case, it means that the bourgeois are more knowledgeable and intelligent than the proletariat.
