Norton offers a comprehensive set of tools and services to help you monitor activity on your PC, but the product is missing key features, including a browser proxy. Norton OneCare Free gives you additional protection. It doesn’t include all the features of Norton OneCare, but it does let you manage your mobile devices and protect them from malware, using either a Windows or Mac computer, a Web browser, or an iOS or Android app.

Norton 360, for both Android and iOS, is designed to be the all-in-one personal security solution, with anti-malware protection, online storage, and backup. It doesn’t include any antivirus scanning, but it can be used to secure your Android or iOS device.

IDrive is the only provider that can automatically back up files for you. Dropbox and Google Drive are convenient because they’re accessible from any browser or mobile device. Just be sure to enable access for your backup files in each application’s settings.

In our tests, Norton 360 kept trying to reconnect to our network and failing about three times before we gave it the ol’ “net time out” — which locks it out of the local network and can be frustrating.

You can also make your own extensions. Use the Norton web tool, select the “Create Extension” option, and follow the instructions. But you should only use these extensions in one browser, and be careful not to re-enable them on your users’ computers. Create your free account, and download the free version of Norton Web Security. That’s all the setup you’ll need. Click “Start now” at the bottom of the screen. If you have an existing Norton account, sign in. If you have a Norton Classic account, click “Sign up” to create a new one. If you don’t already have a Norton account, click “Forgot your password?” to get started. When you’re done, click “Create new profile” to make sure you’re using the correct settings. This profile is really what you’re trying to make your Norton Security work as your security package for the browser, especially to protect it. You may see extra settings for tabs and settings for other features. Turn them on if you want to use those in addition to Norton Security, and turn off any you don’t. Some tools are included; others come from the web, and still others you can buy. Once you’ve downloaded Norton Security, you can click “Change web protection settings” to set how you want your browser protected. If you have a Norton button on your browser, it will use the Norton Security settings. If you don’t, it will use the web protection settings (but not the security settings, unless you also download the security settings separately). You can download and install the Norton Product Scanner directly through the web browser.
