A great idea comes from such a simple feature – compound selections. It’s really simple and easy to do. The feature enables you to create selections that are different parts of an image. It is extremely useful when painting on images. If you are familiar with the Select and Delete functionality we previously talked about, using compound selections will not be a mystery at all. Using your Rectangle tool on an image, you can determine what you’d like to use for a selection. When you do this, you create a selection. To unselect something from the Selection tool, hold down the Alt/Command, or Cmd, key to make it so it’s not selected. Once you have your selection, you can then make it easier to remove it from the original image. In the example below, I’ve used the Pen tool to let you see the selection I created on the dog. The main difference in this image is the background color. If you were using watercolor, you’d want to blend the color you want the dog to have. To do this, I’m going to use Layer Masks. They’re great at making sure the final layer blends perfectly with the picture.
Color Match from various images on your system is a great feature to have. This feature is great for designer’s trying to create a cohesive look for their content. When working on multiple projects, this feature allows you to pull from a large library of images that have identical colors in them. Simply launch the Color Match tool and hold down Shift to assign the color values to only a portion of your image. To select the tool, you must have the tool selected and then you can double-click on the color swatch you wish to assign. You can easily select a swatch of any color and colorings. To import images, simply browse to the folder the images are in. Once selected, you can delete the swatches you no longer need.
