when you first run fatxplorer, youll see these controls at the top. these are the basic settings that control all your options. we have a detailed how-to guide on how to use fatxplorer on our manual page , so if you have problems you can look it up to get full instruction for using this application.
when you open the app, youll be taken to the main menu. from here, you can view your partitions, and enter diagnostics mode to get diagnostic information about your xbox (which is saved on your hard drive, so it needs to be connected when running fatxplorer). you can also choose to use console commands or script, or enter a manual partition configuration. you can choose from three different menu styles, and a simple or advanced format/quick format option.
theres a handy summary tab, which shows all the information about your device. this includes the fatxplorer driver version, the console commands, the partitions, the size of the partitions, and the size of the cluster size. from here, you can also view the complete partition table information, including the partition order.
theres a top level menu for the partition buttons. youll need to use this to change the main view. you can save the view by pressing the back button and choosing the save view option at the top. you can also view information about the current partition and the fatxplorer drivers version, which is saved when fatxplorer is closed.
from here, youll get the diagnostics information about your xbox. you can then use the on-screen buttons to perform quick tests on the drive. you can view the results from the last diagnostic, and see the hardware tests that are currently in progress.
version 36 of fatxplorer now includes a dashboard! it will quickly update if youve purchased or sold a drive. also, if youre using the human-readable name (not the default random name that fatxplorer generates), you can now check the real-world device name and manufacturer information. and lastly, theres an updated udf drive detection system! if theres any issues with a drive, select the bad write support option. if youre using fatxplorer, then this will bring up a warning screen to tell you to use a more friendly version of ntfs (such as fatxplorer). ive found that many og xbox hdds have problems with the write cache and/or journaling. generally, they are too old for the xbox one 8.1.0 firmware. there are a few people that have claimed that theyve been able to successfully run 8.0 on these drives, but others have said it doesnt work. you can read more about this at: yes, there is, and it was something that people have wanted for a very long time. i have built it. the new name for fatxplorer is fatxplorer v2.0. this adds some new features and fixes a lot of bugs, including some bugs with the console drm that made it harder for fatxplorer to work properly. this is the first time i have made a fatxplorer v2. after the partition table and file allocation table are created, the partition table is filled with a single entry, fat0, which is where the fat is. after setting a size for the partition, fatxplorer automatically creates the necessary ext and fat areas for you. as shown below, the left-hand screen is the device context. the grey area is the visible part of the disk. you can see that the left-hand side is uneven because that is where the fat is placed. the right-hand part is the ext area which fatxplorer increases and creates according to the selected size: 5ec8ef588b
